What changed in licences, cashiers and offers.

News and notes from the desk: changes in the rules that decide where Canadians can play, operators opening and closing, and what moved in the cashier. Longer explanations live in the guides.

What gets published here

A post appears when there is a document behind it: a regulator notice, a change in published terms, a licence that moved. Press releases are not reprinted, and nothing here is advice to gamble.

What a post here looks like

Short, dated and sourced. A licence that changed hands, an operator that stopped accepting Canadian players, a cashier that dropped a payment rail, a regulator notice, a rewritten bonus clause. An entry says what changed, where it was published and what it means for someone holding a balance — and little else. Longer explanations belong in the guides.

Why dates matter more in this section

A review can stay true for a year. A blog entry is true on the day it was written: the offer it quotes may be withdrawn a week later, the licence it reports may be reinstated, the operator it describes may reopen under another brand. Nothing here is quietly edited afterwards to look current, and when a later entry contradicts an earlier one both stay up, with the newer one saying so.

What does not get published

Press releases, affiliate announcements, bonus codes without a source, and anything that reads as a prediction. There is no "casino of the month" post, because a month is not a unit of evidence. Operators are welcome to send licence details and changes to their terms; a message from an operator is not by itself a post.

Responsible play

Nothing in this section is an invitation to gamble. A post about a bonus is a description of a clause, not a suggestion to clear it. Canadian help lines are listed on our responsible gambling page, and ConnexOntario answers on 1-866-531-2600 at any hour for anyone in Ontario who would rather talk to a person than read a page.

The archive

The news items carried over from the previous version of this site stay as they were filed, with their original dates and their original wording. They are kept rather than refreshed because a dated record of what an operator announced is more useful than a rewritten one, and because people still search for them. Nothing in the archive is presented as current.

How often this section updates

Irregularly, and deliberately so. An entry appears when a document appears — a register update, a licence suspension, a revision to published terms — not on a schedule that would mean inventing news in a quiet week. A month with nothing worth reporting gets nothing. It is also why there is no comment thread and no newsletter sign-up here: the section exists to record changes, not to hold attention. Where an entry concerns a brand with a review on this site it links to that review instead of repeating the figures, so that the cashier and the licence stay current in one place and the change stays dated in another.
